Issues with Grade and Elevation Calculation on My Garmin Edge 1050

I am writing to report an issue with my Garmin Edge 1050, which I purchased a month ago. Since yesterday, the device has not been functioning correctly in terms of calculating gradients and elevation.

During my last ride, the road gradients displayed were completely inaccurate. For instance, while riding on a slope of 18%, my GPS was showing -11%. I have tried everything to resolve this issue, but nothing seems to work: the gradient calculation is not functioning, and as a result, elevation is also not being calculated.

Strangely, the ClimbPro feature does appear and shows the gradient that should be present, but in real-time, the displayed values are almost always negative.

This is particularly frustrating for a brand-new device. I have tried resetting the GPS, but the problem persists. To give you an idea, during my ride yesterday, my friends recorded a total elevation gain of 2138 meters, while my device barely showed 500 meters.

Could someone assist me in resolving this issue?

- Interestingly MapDashboard showed the correct gradient, Climbpro, Elevation-Datapage did not

- I could resolve the issue with pausing recording and rebooting the device. Then restart recording ....

But still: should not happen at all. As usual with new devices we are Beta testers (even for non Beta Softwareversions).

Thanks for your reply, sorry for my english.

I tried, but it doesn’t work on mine.

I paused and restarted, but without success. I even stopped my session, turned off the device, then turned it back on to start a new session, but it didn’t solve the problem.

I also tried recalibrating the GPS, etc., but nothing works.

Additionally, I encountered another issue with the Varia: it kept disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly.

I have had the same problem. My wife and I both purchased the 1050 and both of us have had issues with the grade measurement but intermittently. I have brought this up with Garmin support and sent them files but haven't been able to capture simultaneous screen shots where one is reading correctly and one not. To give an example, the other day I did three local hills where the gradient goes up to 12% and my Edge was reading 3%. So today, I went out with both Edges mounted on my bike, ready to take screen shots to send to Garmin. They both read perfectly. I was ready to send them back but now I'm doing more research.

There is problem with grade and elevation since edge *30 series
For me the altitude is quite agile but I have some funny calculations with total ascent. There is the link for my problem. I did two appeals to Garmin support, no answer for 8 days already

I have had the same issue with my first 1050 and my warranty replacement. I tried an IQ data field called “BRM Grade” yesterday and it worked really well. So my conclusion is that this is bad Garmin software and not hardware related. I had a similar issue with a Garmin Edge 5 years ago, too. Why does Garmin struggle so much with this simple calculation?
