How does hazard reporting / warning work?

As an experiment, I stopped at a place in my neighborhood where the city dug up the street to fix a water leak, and left an unpaved area.  I called it a pothole, and "reported" it.  But when I rode by it again on the same ride, I didn't get a warning in either direction.  However, at the end of my ride, I was asked if the hazard was still there, or had been fixed.

What do I have to do to get a warning?  (I have seen warnings a couple of times for hazards reported by other riders, although I couldn't identify either of those hazards.  In one case, I was seeing a distance countdown until I was about 300 - 400 meters away, then it distance started going up!  I guessed that the hazard must have been after a turn that I didn't take.

  • If you tap the hazard I think it takes you to the map page where it is displayed.

  • Today I got an actual buzz and a red bar telling me there was a pothole in 150m. I’m not sure its useful. Some of the roads around here are dreadful, and the pothole was on the other side.

  • I consider it as a useless feature. I just rely on my eyes. Garmin should concentrate on the important stuff.

  • I disabled the hazard notifications after a few weeks, as I never received a single one that I thought was useful.

  • I would appreciate a personal warning function

So that I am warned about something that I enter myself and have come across

without sharing it with others who usually have no use for it

  • I've been off the bike for several weeks. I got started again, and the hazard I reported was still giving me a warning.  I can't figure out how to turn it off.  I saw the query as to whether the hazard was still present, or had been fixed.  I thought I said it was fixed by tapping the check makr (as opposed to the "X").  That didn't make it go away, so after another ride in the same area, I turned off hazard reporting.

Does anyone know how to remove a reported hazard?

  • Turn OFF hazard warnings and ignore this useless feature. Hazard (and other?) warnings distract the riders focus from the road and are dangerous therefore. Garmin could better focus on more important issues - there are many as everybody can read here.

  • I haven't yet received a warning reported by someone else (and my city of Fullerton, CA could easily be a hazard almost anywhere within the city limits).  Now that I've turned it off, I guess I won't get any unless and until I try it again....

  • I've had hazard notifications disabled for several weeks, but if I happen to be on the map screen, I can see that the maps are still littered with red triangles containing exclamation marks. If I've said I don't want notification of supposed hazards, why the *** are they still appearing on the maps?

  • +1. At the end the map gets unreadable.
