Two system reboots on today's ride

Had my 1050 spontaneously reboot twice on my ride today.  First time when it was trying to recompute the route when it I went off course (bang, Garmin boot screen).  Recovered ride and could just press the start button to resume.  Second time was exactly the same as a 1040 (beta firmware) reboot I had on my previous ride, where I had manually rebooted the device mid-ride to reconnect some sensors. When I finished the ride, it briefly showed the summary page and then rebooted.  Ride saved with only the data up to the first reboot, except for the summary totals (distance, ascent, time, etc.).

The only ConnectIQ app I was running in common between the two devices was MyBikeRadar, which does write stuff to the .fit file on ride completion.  Issue there?  I've also taken a copy of the 1050's filesystem after the ride just in case there's some diagnostic stuff that could be interesting.

Running v9.11.  Do like the 1050 though!

  • They made a complete mess out of it

Climbpro is in shambles showing a 2% gradient on an 8% one

  • still crashes every fu**** day.

  • since this is an old thread have you tried latest beta 11.22? I don't know what exactly, but my issues with more than one reboot per ride got solved somewhere in between of:

    * disabling a lot of unnecessary bloat - climb pro, groupride stuff, community alert thingy, mtb tracking, probably others. Basically if something is not directly contributing to showing my position on map screen and can be deleted/disabled it is deleted.

    * updating to latest 11.x beta branch (11.18 then)

    * doing full factory reset without restoring anything

    * not using any Connect IQ stuff besides SmartBikeLights (my suspicion is on IQ widgets writing to .fit files, had a radar widget doing that)

    * switching map to bbbike.org openfietslite with only close proximity region on map (county not continent). Nothing else is enabled.

Of course probably only one of those is the real fix but I'm too lazy to debug it. Works, better not to touch.

  • Well, it's logical that the fewer features you use, the lower the risk of a crash.
(I personally use a lot of IQ data fields, but few of the special features like group ride etc, and I never have crashes).

But shouldn't a device (this expensive) also work if you use some more of the features on offer?

    • I'm always on the new Beta, now on 11.22
    • All bloat deactivated
    • I'm biking without routes and card
    • you will not receive any status regarding the problem. You always have to ask questions. Very poor support from Garmin.
    • Received a replacement device from Garmin, the problems remain.
    • Not a single Connect IQ is installed
  • no IQ datafields
no navigation (what means „no card“?)
no bloat like climb pro, group ride etc…

…and still crashes? The same with a replacement device?
    That‘s very strange…

  • I ride without active navigation and not active map on the Edge 1050. Climp pro, Group ride etc. it's all deactivated. Yes still crashes every day also with the new device. Crashes during rides and sometimes by press the stop button.

  • What sensors are you using?

  • Wahoo Cadence & Speed with SRAM AXS Red and on the other bikes SRAM Rival with the same Wahoo sensors.

  • My Garmin experienced this on one in every three rides
