Two system reboots on today's ride

Had my 1050 spontaneously reboot twice on my ride today.  First time when it was trying to recompute the route when it I went off course (bang, Garmin boot screen).  Recovered ride and could just press the start button to resume.  Second time was exactly the same as a 1040 (beta firmware) reboot I had on my previous ride, where I had manually rebooted the device mid-ride to reconnect some sensors. When I finished the ride, it briefly showed the summary page and then rebooted.  Ride saved with only the data up to the first reboot, except for the summary totals (distance, ascent, time, etc.).

The only ConnectIQ app I was running in common between the two devices was MyBikeRadar, which does write stuff to the .fit file on ride completion.  Issue there?  I've also taken a copy of the 1050's filesystem after the ride just in case there's some diagnostic stuff that could be interesting.

Running v9.11.  Do like the 1050 though!

(Don't have the unit currently with me, so not exactly sure which SW, but same experience - ReRoute to shut down)

  • Every single ride the unit reboots multiple times. I tried it again today and it rebooted 6 times during the ride and cost me 9kms. I'm sick of it. It's been like this since day one. I've phoned Garmin last week and went through it all with them and still have not heard anything back. It's really poor. I consent to being contacted. It is terribly frustrating.

  • @hollywood-100 What build are you on?

  • Please contact me - it’s very bad - today 29/9/2024 and yesterday 28/9|2024

  • Yes I consent to being emailed directly

Yes I consent to Garmin viewing my connect information

    Impacted ride: September 28, 2024

No course was being used, reboot happened while searching for a navigation point of interest during a ride.

    1. I consent to being emailed directly
    2. I consent to allow Garmin to view my Garmin Connect information
    3. 9/28/2024 - Indoor Ride; 9/29/2024 outdoor Ride
    4. No course used
  • It's frustrating that despite the firmware updates, with versions 10.18 and 10.19, there hasn't been any improvement regarding the spontaneous reboots of the device, as demonstrated by other threads on this issue.

To better understand and address this problem, as was suggested in other threads, I propose that everyone experiencing this issue share as much information as possible here, including:

    1. Firmware version
    2. Data fields or Connect IQ apps installed
    3. How long into the ride the reboot occurs
    4. What specific functions or actions caused the reboot (e.g., route recalculation)
    5. Whether a device reset has been attempted and if it was effective
    6. If the device was sent to Garmin support and if the issue was resolved after the intervention

Additionally, as Garmin had previously requested for firmware 9.11 crashes, it would be helpful to provide the following:

    7. Do you consent to being emailed directly? (no need to post your email, Garmin can retrieve it from your account)
    8. Do you consent to allowing Garmin to view your Garmin Connect information?
    9. Provide dates of impacted rides.
    10. Provide a public link to the course file if a course was being ridden.

By gathering and sharing this information, we can hopefully push for a solution to this persistent problem.

  • 10.19 seems to have fixed reboots for me. 10.18 didn't.

  • Still crashing running firmware 10.19.
