1050 cannot fit Emonda Aeolus RSL VR-C Handlebar/Stem

K-Edge doesn't make a 1050 compatible mount for the Aeolus RSL Handlebar/Stem that comes with the Emonda SLR, and the included Trek mount is too short. I've called Trek twice, giving them my email to update me on solutions (a new mount) and I haven't heard anything. K-Edge says they're coming out with new products...eventually. Since I can't use this computer on my bike, I'll be returning it to Garmin.

Garmin will have to deal with my return and will also miss out on countless sales with this utterly stupid new design. They're clearly oblivious to the countless 1-piece bar/stems that their target market (people who would spend $700 on a bike computer) own, which all have proprietary computer mounts. To fit the electronics they could have made it thicker or wider, but in a fit of utter stupidity, they made it longer and then moved the attachment point to worsen the issue further.

  • Japanese company Rec-Mounts makes a solution...

  • "1050" does not appear on that page, and the link for the Aeolus RSL VR-C bars is broken. Unfortunately I also can't read Japanese. Do you know the link for the actual part you think will work?

  • Agreed regarding the lack of mounts, but I was able to get this working with a "Cestbon Out Front Bike Handlebar Combo Mount with Adapter for Garmin Edge" that I found on Amazon. My bike is a 2022 Emonda SLR9.

  • Do you have a Bontrager Aeolus RSL VR-C Handlebar/Stem? Are you using the Trek-included base mount and the Crestbon long extension?

The mount that came with the bars is ~73mm, and the Cestbon long mount is 83mm. How tight is the fit with that extra 10mm of extension - does the 1050 touch anything or does it fit freely? I've read about people having problems with their 1050 when it's jammed into the bars or mount hardware (scratches, shaking, etc).

I've already returned the 1050 I bought, but before I buy it a second time, I just wanted to make sure this mount isn't just a bodge.

  • I'm not 100% sure on the bar and stem. It's the 2022 SLR9 w/ SRAM AXS. The Trek website seems to say it's a "Bontrager Aeolus RSL Integrated bar/stem" but I don't see the VR-C. I'm using the trek base mount and the Cestbon extension. It is sorta tight, but just fine. There is a bit of space. No complaints. I've had a hard time finding mounts long enough for the 1050, but this was a good find.

    This is my bike: www.trekbikes.com/.../

  • I've got the same bike with the same bar/stem. I'm 99% sure we both have this part, which comes with a computer mount that's too short for the 1050. Thanks for finding a solution!

K-Edge makes a mount for our bar/stem that's too short for the 1050, but they do make a 1050-compatibly mount for the new Madone's bar/stem.

  • The only niggle with this solution is that the mount does twist down slightly over time (the 1050 is heavy) and I don't want to overtighten. I'm going to put some fibergrip and that should keep things from moving. It's a very minor problem, but fibergrip should solve it.
