Has anybody got Garmin Basecamp to work with the Edge 1050 on a Mac?

Update - I've just spoken to Garmin's support team and they have confirmed that the Edge 1050 is not compatible with Basecamp "So this device isn't compatible with basecamp I'm afraid, It has an on board map manager instead." "We are no longer going to be supporting BaseCamp I'm afraid, still with updates for older devices but none of the newer ones."

when you connect to your Mac does it appear as a drive in 'finder' - mine doesn;t - I can only access files through android file transfer app (although it does appear in Garmin express).

No, and it doesn’t sound like Garmin will be supporting file transfer on a Mac either. From what I understand file transfers and course creation will need to go through Garmin Connect. 

I managed to transfer maps to it by dragging and dropping into an android file transfer window. Seems a bit backwards though to have to do it this way?

I keep a thumb drive onto which I cloned the storage from my old Garmin 1000, and Basecamp sees that as a 1000, so I install the maps onto the thumb drive, and then copy them sideways to both my 1050 and my wife's 1030. You could try doing that.
