If your 1050 won't fit your out-front mount...

Garmin offers an insert, part number 010-12563-01, that replaces the standard insert.  It is intended for users of the external battery pack.  It changes the mounting process from rotating the unit, to using a locking arm, so that the 1050 doesn't have to be rotated.  I don't know if it would work with third party out-front mounts, but you could check it out.

I foresee several bike brands, and K-Edge, making new out-front mounts.  And kicking themselves for not thinking that bike computers would never get larger than the 1030 / 1040 size.

  • Well , truth to be told is more that Garmin changed the position where the insert is and  that was not expected , the size of the device (in length) is more or less the same . Is  pain in the ass for the users , I have had a 540 + , 830 , 1040 and now 1050 , and in my road bike I drilled the aero mount (Willier) so I could gain some distance (brute but it worked) however in my gravel and mountain bikes I need to buy a new compatible mount  :( .

  • New version for our MasterMount is also available in the length for the Garmin 1050. To chnage the length was not Garmins best idea.

  • It's very strange that the design group is allowed to change the dimension from center of the mount to bottom of the unit. One would think this would be etched in stone, since so many mounts rely on it never changing.

  • Don't think this would help me - once rotated (which is tight) my 1040 JUST fits in front of my Madone bars on the Bontrager blendr mount. Moving the mount point so that it's HARDER to fit was a bizarre design choice.
    Guess it saves me £700.

  • Don't think the mount designers will be kicking themselves, they get to sell a load all over again.

  • It was a very anti-user decision. Like Apple dropping the headphone jack.
