Garmin not synching with GC AND Strava

For the I don't know how many times now the Garmin 1040 SOLAR is not synching with GC and STRAVA.

Need to re-install again...

How difficult can it be?
Getting sick here with this company and they refuse to solve matters that last long time.

Am I the only one?

regards,

Ronald

  • No, you are not the only one, but it has only happened a couple of times to me in the two years that I have had a 1040. One of those times was yesterday. When I finished my ride it didn't sync to GC. I tried again an hour later and it synced without a problem. I do sympathise with the folk who seem to have unending problems, but I have found the 1040 to be pretty reliable. Maybe I've just been lucky.

  • Syncing with Strava requires syncing with the Garmin servers first so it's not an additional issue, only a byproduct of the first problem. For me it only happens when the Garmin servers have problems and this solves itself after some time automatically.

But if you mention "reinstalling GC" then I gather you don't use the direct WiFi sync from the Edge to the Garmin servers but the bluetooth sync from the Edge to the Garmin connect app? This doesn't change much though, the app won't accept the activity as long as the servers are overloaded.

  • I don't need to reinstall (I had to recently, but that was a recognized bug in a new version of garmin connect) but syncing a ride is always a problem. I usually have to get into garmin connect and initiate a manual sync. If that doesn't work, reboot the garmin and the iphone. I come from the Edge 1000, so around 12 years of Garmin Edge and multiple versions of Android and IPhone and the problem has always been there, I can't believe it is such a big technical issue. I have an Omron blood pressure monitor and it instantly send the readings to my phone, never failed once.

  • I haven't had any issues like this with the 1040 but with the 1030 + it would sometime not upload to GC when I saved in the parking lot.  If I turned the unit off and then back on it usually was able to upload. It seemed like it was a flaky cellular connection and/or bluetooth.  This was with an iPhone.

Have you contacted Garmin support?  They can check what is causing the failure to upload...

Maybe I have also been lucky with the 1040...
