More visibility for route plot?

Does anyone else wish the route plot (on the 1040 at least) was far more visible? I'm a bit jealous of how Wahoo have done it on the Roam 3 - much more visible, and even colour coded to reflect the upcoming gradients.

A combination of poor contrast, aging eyesight and thin little pink line means I sometimes struggle to see it at a glance, particularly on bumpy gravel.

  • I think lots of people would like it to be more visible. The good news is that you may be able to do something about it. It is possible to create a new map theme where, for example, you change the route colour and the cursor colour. A good starting point would be to look here

I too have eyesight considerably worse than it used to be. I bought some bifocal cycling glasses and they have made a world of difference.

  • Agree about visibility and contrast on the Edge display.  That aside, like MartinF, I wear bifocals when riding.  In my case I'm fully into presbyopia and have worn progressive bifocals for years.  For riding/hiking, I have a set with less near correction and they work great for seeing the Edge and the terrain.  When I asked the eye doc for glasses for riding/hiking, he new exactly what I meant and needed.

  • Thanks - I saw that a few months ago and tried it. Didn't really help. I don't think it's so much my eyesight, more that the route just doesn't stand out enough. Like I say, the Wahoo implementation looks so good from the screenshots on this review from Cycling Weekly:

    I wish Garmin would notice!

I don't like your chances for that, the Maptheme customisation is probably your best bet but of course this is only possible on x30 & x40 devices so will fade into history. Making the route "stand out" can involve both the route like and background colors of various map elements, ie the base "land" color ("MPM_LAND_CLR") and colors of forests, parks, urban areas etc. Sometimes best to make all these backgrounds the same as the base (Land) so the route is not hidden by other elements. I have lots of examples throughout the forums (mostly 1040) so I won't repeat them here.

Also marketing "screenshots" are always better than the real thing and even for garmin are mostly done by graphic artists rather than via real screenshots.
