Edge 1040 firmware 29.22 map pointer

Since firmware upgrade to 29.22. While navigating a course:

- my position pointer is much larger on map screen (the same size as virtual partner) it is terrible. How do I get the pointer back to original size?

- there is no current position 'cursor' display on the profile on the map page now. (still there on elevation profile page however)

Both issues are infuriating.

    The new, better, bigger, greater cursor was introduced early this year, you must have somehow missed it? I greatly like it but the good news for you is that a smaller version is possible via a customised MapTheme , you can choose between a number of smaller ones

    I have a ticket open on the second issue.

    When following a course and you have the elevation profile on the map page enabled the position of the rider is not shown on that profile.

    Yep.  Kinda funny that for years many were clamoring for a more visible cursor.  Now that they got it, I'd prefer the smaller one back.

    i resist firmware upgrades, hence I missed the introduction of the big beautiful curser. Thanks for the link but it is not clear how to adjust the curser size and what the hex values for each parameter do. Have you got any further info on this??? (editing the file is not issue, i have modified MAP THEME previously) but don't really know what I'm doing. Is there somewhere I can find a list of parameters??? I'd love to increase the size/ visibility of the 'scale' on the map. my major pet hate.

    MapTheme 101,  HOW TO: Make course line easier to see 

    There are dozens of forum topics / posts regarding useful things you can do with the Maptheme especially in the 1040 forum, search for maptheme?, there is no "Garmin" official "list" of parameters, the first 2 characters of each 8 digit code (following the #) is the transparency factor, it has to be either 00 or FF. The next 6 digits are the item hex color code. 

    My original reply  RE: Larger Map User Icon / Cursor has Arrived (27.09B) !  contains a sample file to change the cursor to one of the 6 smaller options as shown in the 6 screenshots, look below the 4th one. 

    PS All this was covered / linked to in the "Larger Map..." post above, you must have missed all that too so you can see why I am not really interested any more in spending time educating people who can't be bothered to read the material, but I am all right jack, thanks, garmin removed maptheme from the x50 series so its all a declining art

    I read the reply and viewed the file. most of the search results are re-hashes of other posts. (as noted i have previously modified Map Theme based on some of those posts. did you read that?) I simply asked if you knew more. seems you don't. 

    How Garmin ever though a huge pointer that can obscure other turns/ details on the map with actual position located somewhere in the middle of the pointer instead of the tip amazes me and again re-enforces my belief that Garmin does zero realworld testing.

    I am happy to give credit to Garmin when deserved, a larger map "cursor" and ability to turn off the Virtual Partner were the two most user requested changes on Edge devices over many generations of devices and many many years. The fact that both were delivered in the same release raised hopes that they were listening. The fact that the cursor was delivered in a way that allowed easy regression to a range of smaller cursors via a simple user initiated action was also a big plus.

    I am sure we all look forward to your future contributions on this as it seems to have failed your high standards. I am though not hopeful the x40 devices will get much from future releases now, you had better get a 1050, good luck.

    not a particularly high standard. a market dominating company should be able to get these things right first try and field test there firmware edits. 

    turn off VP, meh, i already had it transparent. Easy regression to a smaller cursor??? did you forget to point that out how to do that earlier? 

    i use this device pretty much every day of my in unfamiliar territory in unfamiliar countries that use unfamiliar alphabets so these seemingly trivial annoyances become real world issues for me and my partner very quickly. I just have an alternative use pattern/ requirement to the club rider or occasional Audax punter.

    How?  Do you mean by editing the map theme, or is it user selectable somewhere?
