Cannot connect to Garmin Express after update to 28.24

Now with the 28.24 update my 1040 will not connect to Garmin Express. It`s always has in the past with some effort, but now no go. Anybody else have this issue? Tried USB-c to c. USB b-c and nothing. Connects to iPhone and to network but hardwire is a no go.

  • Talk about a PITA, finally got connected.

    1) Had to do a hard rest of the 1040 even though it would power up and down correctly.

    2) Delete 1040 from Garmin Express

    3) Search for new device. After 5 minutes it found it.

Should not have to go through this ever

  • Well spoke too soon. Even though it shows my edge 1040 it will not connect. Have tried 3 cables. One that came with it, a USB-b to USB-c, and a usbc-c cable. Tried to connect with unit down and powered up. Nothing. All this started after last firmware update. Any ideas. Using a pc using Windows 11. I have rebooted numerous times and restarted Express many times as well. Even went into task manager and stopped device and restarted. Something happened to 1040 with the latest update that keeping Express from connecting.

  • So, this has been a long, strange journey. Thanks GD. But here goes. Thanks to a bug that seems to be with "USB-A Gen 2" and "USB-C Gen 2" connections with the Edge 1040, this helped me solve a nagging windows 11 problem on my pc. Looks like my 10year+ case on my video editing workstation has a big issue with the usb-a connectors on the top of the case. Disconnected those plugs on motherboard and now no more mysterious reboots. Now back to the issue that pops up now when using usb 3.1 gen 2 connections. When device connects it syncs, and everything looks good. Resync and you get a red banner that says there is a sync error. Below in the box it says it synced ok. Anyone else see this.

tried to attach a .jpg but this site does not allow.

  • This issue is not solved. My Edge 1040 will not connect to Garmin express while using a usc-c connector to a usb-c port. Unit does not like to connect to any usb type-a 3.1 and later ports on a consistent basis. It's not my computer so let's not go there. Edge 1040 has no issues connecting to my computers usb 2.0 ports. Either Garmin express needs work or your latest firmware for the Edge 1040 has some issues working with usb 3.1 and later ports. Remove the solved checkmark. ISSUE IS NOT SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Now for the fun stuff. I finally got my connection issue solved. There still is the issue where when Garmin Express connects to the Edge 1040 everything happens like it should. When it syncs, I get the green banner that said sync was good and the box also has a checkmark. If I tap the resync then they sync?, but this time I get a red box with a resync error has occurred. Do that again it keeps happening. Disconnect the Edge 1040 from usb jack and the reconnect I get a valid sync. Press resync and error is back. This all started after that last firmware and Garmin Express update.

Now for what caused the usb connection problem. I am sure others might have run into this, and this is the solution. My motherboard is an ASUS Threadripper based system motherboard was made probably around 2018. This board has usb 3.1 gen 1 and also a Asmeda based usb 3.1 gen 2 port system. The Asmeda device was having the issue with the connection and detection of a usb device. After spending way too much time, I finally found that the Asmeda "asm3142 controller" on the motherboard also needed firmware updates when problems arise. Updated the firmware and this workstation is now working properly.

Still Garmin can you find out what's going on with this sync error that I am still having.
