Gradient errors

My gradient is always a degree or 2 less than the actual gradient. Overall the elevation gain and loss over the ride is accurate.
I wonder if it has to do with the orientation of the head unit which I hav tilted up so that I can see it better. Will try levelling it and se if it makes a difference?

  • If I install Sensible Grade will that be what is used for the grade on Climbpro or is it just for a datafield?

  • the Grade% is faulty, the device is on my desk and showing this: (usually the same -1,-2,-3% on flat section outside) , Edge 840, 28.33 (but i assume it is the same on every Edge devices x40/x50/MTB...)

  • So I tried it out and changing the orientation of the device makes no difference. Today riding down a hill showing -3 to -4%, riding up the same hill anything from 0 mostly 1 and peaked at 2%. Definitely incorrect, seems universal on all Edges?

  • hmm? the device standing on the desk should show exactly 0%, regardless of the position, because grade is calculated by the elevation / distance, so it should show something different then zero when moving

I suspect that there was changes in the air pressure that was considered as elevation changes, yet still not clear what was the distance it was calculated Wink

  • stay calm and forget garmin's grade

usually it is considered excellent when it does not show +20% on a downhill, it is that bad

+/- 5%? that is an absolutely extraordinary perfection for garmin

    I am dead serious now

  • Install Sensible Grade from the IQ Store.  I've been using it all summer and it's way more accurate.

  • I don’t know about Climbpro. It is a data field.

No, it only works with this IQ data field. There is no transfer to any native Garmin display.

  • did you watch the video? :) the  elevation datafield is there, constant 458m... (what kind of air pressure change in the living room , where the Edge laid all day long? :) )

  • i think the threshold value for change in up or down direction is the key, if the change is higher than the presetted value, it shows + or - gradient%, and probably the 2 threshold values are not the same (or the barometer is going down more easily than up by hw characteristic) unfortunately i cant see the grade% and this page watch simultanously...
