Version 28.33 Still crashing and rebooting

Downloaded version 28.33 firmware. Went on a 100km ride today, and the device crashed and rebooted yet again. I was hoping this firmware would fix these crashes. It appears not in my case.

It was 30+ km in to the ride, and I had stopped. Paused the ride, and restarted. Soon after crashed and burned. It does not look like I lost any data, but this is extremely frustrating.

Anybody else had this on 28.33 ?

  • did you follow any course during the ride? do you have any other maps are installed than the official Garmin TopoActive 2025.10 and ClimbPros? do you have active BT Phone connection during the ride? and any CIQ apps are installed?

try to Menu->System->Device Reset->Delete Temporary Files , re-sync and do a test ride.

  • Yes I followed a course.

No I only have Topo Active Map

    No BT connection while riding

Several CIQ apps installed, but none installed or updated before the crashes started. Nothing changed.

  • I had the same issue with 28.20. The only thing helped was a soft reset after every ride. I updated to 28.33 yesterday and hoped it would be fixed - let's see.

  • I had one reboot mid-ride, and I had to manually re-"start" recording the ride. Had another reboot before I even started a ride. On my 1040 this is a new feature since 28.33.

  • Same problem, with latest firmware. Only default, Garmin maps.

Yesterday, I went on a geocaching tour and navigated from point to point throughout. The Garmin Edge 1040 regularly rebooted. I spoke with a fellow athlete who also complained about the latest software, and he concluded that navigation is the cause—if it doesn't navigate, then the issue doesn't occur. At the end of the day, my track was also lost, with only a fragment remaining from the beginning and the end, separated by a straight line. I assume that only the parts before the first reboot and after the last reboot remain, while the rest was lost.

Is there any way to revert to a previous software version until the issue is fixed?

  • in my case there was no coincidence between the reboot and the routing. It happend while just riding and recording, without navigating or followeing a track.

After that I stopped several services and notifications and since 28.33 there was no crash anymore.

But because of workload I had no ride longer than 1h since then. But before that the crashes occured every 25-30 minutes.

  • Several crashes/reboots, none while routing.

One reboot before I even hit the start button. Just getting ready for a ride, the 1040 not even recording anything, and it rebooted itself.
