Edge 1040 multiple crashes since 28.20

First ride since the firmwide update - navigating a course, about 60 miles.

Device crashed 3 or 4 times within the first hour - says it is 'saving diagnostics' or something, then reboots. After reboot it resumes the course navigation.

It wasn't doing this before this latest update.

I gave up the course after an hour or so due to this problem.

  • Looked back on Garmin Connect activities and had 2 rides (46 miles total) since v28.20 (on Edge 840 Solar) without issues but today had 5 crashes/restarts in 2 hours ?!

Wonder no pros from Tour Vuelta complained about this and we'll have to wait for next week to have a fix? It would be tons of crashes/restarts for a 100 mile stage.

  • Today i had this problem 7 times during 120 km. race Rage I hope Garmin will fix it very soon.

  • I just returned from a 70 mile ride following a course, the computer crashed about 20 times, rebooting each time. This is intolerable and I will go back to my Wahoo for now and perhaps for ever...

  • the pros are not using 1040 during races, only smaller devices 540/840 or 130plus . probably the course navigation is the problem , with specified (non-Garmin) maps or similar. or the climbpro / segments , are the most refreshed maps (TopoActive and ClimbPro maps) installed on your device?

  • I am not pro :D I have non-Garmin maps on my device. I also think this is problem.

  • i think the users are lucky that the Garmin allows the 3rd party maps till now, if i would be a developer, i would disallow it, too many variations to test, many chance for problems as we see and they are suffering from lack of time... (similar issues with IQ apps, honestly i never installed a single one and i dont have reboots or crashes neither... i dont think that this Connect IQ is a big success ,but they know to make a system open and fix the multiple issues or make fully closed and reduce the numbers of the problems...)

  • Instaling 3rd party maps i one of advantages Garmin devices.

  • probably it was an andvantage 10 years ago but now i dont know why does somebody need a 3rd party map for a cycling head unit, the Garmin's maps can cover everything (yeah i know, there are always rebel users who need unique map with different shaped and coloured lines, and so on...)

  • i never installed a single one and i dont have reboots or crashes neither

My device is brand new and I don't have any third-party maps or an extra Connect IQ field.
The software is up to date.
Strangely enough, I'm also experiencing the known problems with reboots.
Let's just leave the diagnosis to the Garmin developers instead of speculating here.

(yeah i know, there are always rebel users who need unique map with different shaped and coloured lines, and so on...

Yeah, there are always users who like to make rash judgments about other users without knowing the background.
    Completely unnecessary post.

the Garmin's maps can cover everything

In your universe! You are obviously unable to imagine that there are other athletes who ride differently, have a different way of moving, or have different abilities.

but now i dont know why does somebody need a 3rd party map

It's good that you at least admit that you don't know why others do it.

Please don't judge too quickly. THX Wink
