WHOOP 5.0 BLE connection shows 0 BPM

I am using a WHOOP 5.0 band to broadcast heart rate data to Edge 1040.

The sensor connection is perfect. I turn the Edge on and when I start broadcasting in the WHOOP app, the Edge almost automatically connects.

The problem is that the BPM value is 0. If I go to the sensor menu and disable/enable the WHOOP it starts reading. Even if I walk away from the bike it resumes perfectly and never misses values again.

The problem is that I have to do the disable/enable cycle at the beginning of every single ride! I tried to repair the sensor multiple times, leave the broadcast function on WHOOP active, nothing solves it permanently.

Anyone have the same issue or is it just me? WHOOP replaced my previous sensor due to connection issues with both the phone and external devices, but this one has been rock solid in terms of phone connection and, I dare to say, also with the Edge. Only problem is no data is received?

Happy riding,

Paulo Neves from Portugal

  • To make sure I understand, are you saying you have a connection to your Edge and your Whoop app at the same time? There is a chance that Whoop has a unique standard they use, but most sensors that broadcast over bluetooth can only broadcast to one device at a time.

If you disconnect from your app and try to broadcast only to the Edge, I would be curious what results you see.

  • Yes, exactly, the device is connected to both. Broadcast hr to edge and “normal” data connection to iPhone. And yes again, the broadcast can only be to a device at a given time. If I disconnect the app I cannot set broadcast on, since WHOOP has no screen, interface or buttons in itself. This is the way it’s supposed to work, and it does.

only issue is edge displaying 0 instead of current heart rate. Going to the sensor menu and toggling off/on solves the issue for the entire ride. Next day the same goes. First connection ok, but 0 displayed. Off/on and it goes again.
