Edge 1040 constantly asking to pair power pedals

My Edge 1040 is constantly asking if I wish to pair my power pedals again. The dialogue box comes up with the question, but does not go away if I press X or the tick. I have Assioma pro MTB pedals (left and right). I can’t use the Garmin device as the screens keep reverting to this question. My pedals are already paired. Help me please.

    I would recommend removing these sensors that are generating this message from your paired sensors list, then connecting to Garmin Express on a PC or Mac to update your device to 28.20 which is now at 100%. 

    It may be necessary to remove these sensors while your Edge is far enough away from all sensors to not try to auto-connect to them, otherwise this message may reappear. After updating, you will want to pair these sensors again like normal.
