Edge 1040 - Track from previous rides showing

Recently when on vacation my Edge 1040 started a strange behavior, which was that the blue track line would not only show what I had done from this ride, but also from previous rides!  I was doing multiple rides in the same general area, and as I would approach a road that I had ridden in the day before or several days before, the blue line would appear showing where I had ridden.  It definitely was showing previous rides, because I could see where it would go left where I had gone on the previous ride, etc.

I returned home and I just noticed this is happening again here back at home!  What is interesting about this one is that the track line seems to be showing a ride from several days ago, but not the one from yesterday.

There was someone with a Garmin 830 who seemed to have the same problem several years ago, and someone from Garmin was looking into it, but it didn't seem to get resolved:  https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-830/226876/showing-old-tracks-on-map#pifragment-1290=2

Note this is about the blue track line only!  It is unrelated to routes - I was not using navigation for any of these rides.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,

- Mitch

  • Got some screenshots?

    Always the same previous track?

Were you navigating ie using “Turn Guidance”, following a course or just riding without either

Are you sure the “always display” has not got itself somehow turned on? ( course setting for the previous ride)
    Navigation>Courses>[Select the Course]>(3 vertical dots, top-right of screen)>"Always Display"> On/Off

If you change the color of the travelled line for loaded course does the previous track change

Does it show two travelled lines ie the old one and the current one?

Odd, years ago the 1040 had a ghost courses issue where old courses would show, even with big turn arrows & chevrons, took Garmin months & a number of versions to fix but the travelled line was not duplicated.

Do you turn it off between rides or just sleep.

Get the screen shots but then a factory reset often fixes issues where the device appears to lose its mind and act oddly
