Things that doesn´t work since upgrade to 27.14

¤ WiFi sync, works sometimes, but often not at all

¤ Charging battery, very slow and never reaches 100 %

¤ Speed sensor, varies from 20 km/h to 70 km/h on the same speed in reality

¤ Garmin Express says that there is a update för my maps and there isn´t (I only use Europe and I have the latest). I can´t remove this upgrade notes and I can´t sync in Garmin Express anymore.

¤ Very difficult to sync with Garmin Express, even if I use usb to my computer.

¤ Often impossible to shut it off, without having to do a hard reset.

¤ And today I found a new thing, I´ve made a long route in Strava in my computer and when I loaded it on my Edge only the half of it worked.

I do not want all the fancy stuff with group rides, music control etcetera, etcetera. I just want a cycle computer (with navigation) that works! It worked a lot better when it was new, without theese fancy updates. I´ve had it! I`m looking for another brand instead of Garmin!

  • On the one hand, it sounds ironic, but on the other hand - if you want a bike computer/counter that always works, you buy the simplest thing. I also don't need a group ride function, a fussy mode about warning of road hazards, marking the number of laps - are there? Great, there are probably those who use them, I don't need them. They don't bother me. What bothers me is that this device, instead of becoming more and more stable - and it's been more than 3 years since its release - it works worse than when I bought it 2 years ago. That's the kind of thing only garmin can do.

  • I am only addressing your last statement. I am with the emphasis being designed for users who are social media fitness fanatics. Sorry, guys and gals out there, but the majority of people who are searching for a bike computer do not give a *** about all the fitness and social media features. I do not want to constantly boot up my 1040 to me wanting to join a ride. I want to be able to setup my cycling computer to use features I want to see and use. None of the higher end computers do this. Unfortunately, they are all missing the boat with the majority of users who just want great gps and map functions and a selectable list of features and tools. We like to see our speed, miles/km covered, time out on the road or trail. Most like these simple features. I like my 1040 when riding in our congested roads. the maps show traffic and hazards. My major issue with this device is that I cannot control what I want to use and see on my 1040. I like others are not social media fitness fanatics.

Last, Garmin will you fix the climb pro so it actually comes up when I approach the steep grade on my last leg of my route I use often. It has worked only once after the previous large update. Now nothing.

I am sorry if I offended some of the users on this forum but believe it or not people who look for a cycling computer really are looking for a tool that they can setup up to their requirements, not what the company`s fitness team thinks the device should be able to do. The company that eventually sees this and makes their device user friendly will control the market. When I bought my 1040 when it came out, the young man who was looking at it as well said to me I would probably not like it because it was not geared to the type and style of riding I liked. To an extent he was correct. Garmin you make a great feature rich device but have failed to make it user configurable so that it satisfies all users.

  • None of those issues here with 27.14. Did you try a hard reset?

  • Garmin you make a great feature rich device but have failed to make it user configurable so that it satisfies all users.

I think it is the other way around:

It is user configurable. You need not activate or use all the fancy features (like me, I don‘t need them).

It is a feature rich device but it gets poorer with every new feature. Even if you don‘t use all the new and fancy features, they interfere with the over all software stability. Every new feature brings new bugs also to the common features.

I'm really afraid of what bugs the new MTB features (which I don’t need) will bring.

PS: Nevertheless, I am satisfied so far. I am not experiencing any of the errors complained about in the opening post.
Ok, Garmin Express and the way it updates maps is very badly programmed. But after installing the new Topo maps for Europe, it shows “everything up to date”.

  • Even if you don‘t use all the new and fancy features, they interfere with the over all software stability. Every new feature brings new bugs also to the common features.

Exactly! For my needs it worked better when I bought it (exept for the navigation, which has improved) since I don´t need all theese fancy stuff.

  • What bothers me is that this device, instead of becoming more and more stable - and it's been more than 3 years since its release - it works worse than when I bought it 2 years ago.

Exactly! That is also my opinion!

  • Never noticed any issues with my 1040 for the past year or so. But now it wouldn't boot no matter what I tried. I ended up clearing NV memory, reconfigure everything but now I'm having intermittent issues GPS not working. I ended up buying a 530. No issues there with the latest firmware.
