I have a new 1040.
Connect to Windows 11 PC to charge the battery and install updates before first use. .
- In Garmin Express - updates available, click install all.
- That gets to Not enough memory - go to manage maps. Click manage maps.
- That gets to software update required.. Click continue.
- That gets to not enough memory, please go to manage maps. Click close instead of going round again in manage maps.
- Click manage maps below install all. That gets to not enough memory.
Try view details in map updates available and disable all but western europe. That gets to server error - trouble communicating with servers.
Try map details. That gets to reconnect device - unplug and reconnect to continue. That gets nowhere in the app but device asks for install - unplug.
Window in the app that says disconnect and wait - nothing happening. Back into applying changes in the app on PC. Disable (again) eastern Europe and reinstall western Europe.
And so it goes on……
In my day job, in my work in a judicial office, in my role as a member of an emergency service and in my personal life, I use, manage apps, devices, networks and so on. I have rarely had the misfortune to come across something as misbegotten as this app. Someone with more patience than me can try to persuade Garmin that there are relatively straightforward steps to take to make it easy to setup an expensive new device.
