Strava live segments during course

I have switched from a wahoo to Garmin edge 1040. I was told that Garmin is top notch. I tried to use Strava live segments during a course but found out on the forum it doesn’t work. That is really a shame. I would expect from a brand like Garmin they would include this feature but apparently they are not able to manage this 

does anyone else have the same frustration? Has someone reached out to Garmin and received a response on this ?

    You need a paid strava subscription for Strava segments

    No ! Do not blame garmin for your mistake. You need a paid strava subscription for live segment. Read manuals ! Or use garmin connect and download segments for your ride or location. For free !

    Apologies. I do have a paid Strava subscription and I have linked it to Garmin connect. I am also able to use the segments when NOT performing a course. The problem is it doesn’t work during a course. I have read the manual but would you be able to point me at the part I missed ?

    For me it was clear from your original description that you have the Strava subscription, so no need to apologize if others didn't get what your post is about. In that regard I learned to live with it that I have only live segments when no course is loaded or of I use a course created in Strava (that won't show every of your starred segment though). At least the live segments are shown in green on the map so that is something to work with.

    It is crazy and after a year of trying different things this is what I do… when I am following a course with the intent of hitting a segment (that exactly follows my course design), when the green line shows up as incoming on the map I hit the screen to Cancel Current Course.

    This brings up the segment mode I want for the duration and I know I am on course until at least the end of the segment. Then I have to swipe-down and Find Course to get back on the rest of my intended route for the ride.

    Its a hacky workaround, like another one is that I have to manage 2 different profiles and swap them around when I need a route visible because the ClimbPro line obscures the track type so I sometimes need to turn the current climb off on the map but the tray option doesn’t do it so I have to swap profiles!

    favourite the segment in Strava.  Create the course in Strava and favourite.  The Strava course will include these segments and when it transfers over they come through on the course. 

    unless it’s changed. It used to work this way but not tried it with the latest versions of software

    strava live segments are working great for me. the only issue is that some segments refuse to appear on a live ride. most do, but a handful just refuse to pop up no matter what i try

    Description, Garmin's own guidance for the SLS works.

    With one small "but".

    SLS will be displayed on Edge if and ONLY IF the starred segments are displayed UNDER the created route in Strava.

    Specifically, what I mean is that following the description, I will select, for example, 10 segments but only 5 of them will be displayed UNDER the created route (on the route builder page in Strava) - then in Edge ONLY THOSE 5 will be displayed when navigating the course. The other 5 segments will not display.

    Viewing the physical "Segments" subdirectory in the Edge, on the other hand, there are ALL 10 segments Slight smile
