Any way to disable beeps for Tempe sensor reconnections?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Tempe sensors on both of my bikes (paired to an Edge 1040 – FW 27.14), and I’ve noticed a small but frustrating issue I hope there’s already a fix for:

Every time the Tempe sensor sends a new reading (possibly after a temperature change), the Edge emits a beep and shows a banner at the top of the screen (see screenshot below). The problem is that this beep sounds exactly like the one used by critical alerts, such as the Varia radar detecting a car approaching from behind.

Garmin Tempe Connected Baner

In my case, this creates confusion: especially on gravel or narrow roads, where I rely heavily on the Varia to decide when to clear the lane. If the same tone is triggered every few minutes by a Tempe update, I find myself reacting for no reason… or worse, learning to ignore the sound completely, which obviously defeats the purpose of using the radar.

Is there any known way to silence just the beeps for non-critical sensor events like Tempe?
The fact that the banner for Tempe appears at the top of the screen (rather than the bottom like radar or lights connection events) suggests that the system does distinguish between accessory types?

I’d rather not mute all alerts globally (since I still want to hear critical notification beeps)?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  • Is your Edge looking for more than one Tempe? I've found that my 1040 will beep every 5 minutes if it doesn't get a signal from a Tempe so it's necessary to turn off all except the appropriate Tempe in the Edge's list of sensors.

  • In my current setup, only one Tempe sensor is paired, and I haven’t noticed any difference even back when I had two paired (and occasionally active at the same time). I mostly use the bikes seasonally, and since Edge devices don’t support bike profiles, I try not to overload mine with too many sensors. I regularly clean up the sensor list to keep things tidy.
