Hi everyone,
I’m trying to clarify how Garmin Connect handles lactate threshold (LT) values.
Yesterday, after finishing a ride with my Edge device, I received notifications for both "New FTP" and "New Lactate Threshold."
Later, I checked Garmin Connect to review the data and noticed that the new LT value appeared under the Running Lactate Threshold chart, even though the session was clearly a cycling activity. I also saw that there’s no Lactate Threshold section at all under Cycling reports, which makes this even more confusing.
I haven’t done any running since May 5th, as I’ve been trying to recover from some joint problems. So, the new LT value could not have come from a run. It must have been calculated during the ride.
That said, it's worth noting that the Garmin ecosystem isn’t exactly known for context-awareness. Each device tends to act independently, and the platform doesn’t always reconcile data across sports or devices in a consistent way.
On top of that, looking at the LT chart, I also noticed a descending trend, which would normally indicate detraining. However, this doesn’t reflect my actual condition: while I haven’t been running, I’ve been training consistently on the bike, with noticeable progress. From that perspective, the downward trend is misleading.
To summarize:
How should I interpret Running LT values in Garmin Connect generated from cycling sessions?
