Devices:
-
Edge 1040 (FW: 27.14)
-
Varia RCT715 (FW: 6.10)
-
Varia RTL515 (FW: 3.36, used as backup light)
Issue:
Toward the end of a long ride (~7h), the Edge 1040 displayed a message that the RCT715 had been disconnected. Shortly after, the screen showed the notification in the attached image, but the touchscreen became (apparently) completely unresponsive. The power button still worked and allowed me to take the attached screenshot.
Tapping repeatedly on the "X" (dismiss) eventually cleared the message, but there was no feedback until all notifications were gone: possibly due to a stack or flood of queued messages. I’ve encountered similar behavior before: for instance, when I had 10 consecutive notification beeps, it took 10 taps to clear them all. This time, there were no beeps, so I wasn’t sure if it was a single notification or multiple ones layered on top of each other.
After the event:
-
The rear light behavior was unclear. The front light remained on.
-
Opening the "Lights" menu initially showed no lights connected, although after a few seconds, the Varia lights reappeared.
-
I did not stop to check the RCT715 physically, as I was riding on a curvy road at night with active traffic behind. I had a dumb rear light always on, specifically to compensate for such unpredictable Varia behavior.
Notes:
-
This happened about 25 minutes after a mass sensor/accessory disconnect/reconnect event.
-
The RCT715 was charged for ~1 hour at around the 5-hour mark of the ride.
-
RTL515 was used as backup lighting during this period.
-
For the remaining ~30 minutes of the ride, everything worked normally.
