Display Turns Off During Night Rides After Firmware 27.14

Firmware Version: 27.14
Device Model: Edge 1040

Issue:

  • During night rides, the display backlight turns off completely.

  • Tapping the screen turns it back on, but it goes dark again after a few minutes (around 5).

  • This repeats for about an hour, after which the display stays on normally.

  • Observed on two consecutive night rides.

  • Brightness is set to Auto.

  • Battery level was around 70–80%.

  • No power-saving mode or screen lock enabled.

  • Update:
I believe I found the cause. For unknown reasons, a hidden setting under System > Backlight Timeout was set to 2 minutes. It was most likely changed accidentally while the device was in my pocket (I avoid putting it to sleep during breaks due to sensor connectivity issues).

I’ve changed the value back, but haven’t tested it yet. Hopefully this resolves the problem. Will update if the issue persists.

What’s strange is that after about an hour of repeated screen taps, the device eventually stops turning the display off and keeps it on as if it "gives up" enforcing that timeout. Could this be some kind of adaptive behavior? Maybe if the user manually turns the backlight on enough times, the system just lets it stay on? If that’s intentional, it would be helpful to document it somewhere.
