Battery usage normal (new 1040)?

Hello,

I just switched to a 1040 as it is unlikely that the battery save mode of the 1050 will ever be fixed (or even aknowledged) by Garmin.

Did the first two rides with the unit this weekend.

Usage scenario:

- Firmware: v27.14 (actual beta)

- Connected Sensors: Speed, Powermeter, Heartrate, Varia Radar (all ANT+)

- Smartphone with notifications

- Backlight set to automatic with 15sec timeout

- IQ-Datafields: MapDashboard4, OldTimer, TotalTimerDataField

- Navigating a route transferred from RidewithGPS

First ride on Saturday 5:41 hours the Battery dropped from 98 to 58%. That would be roughly a total runtime of 15 hours

Second ride on Sunday with 4 hours the Battery dropped from 99 to 83%. That would be roughly 25 hours total runtime. A lot better but still way below the expected values given by Garmin: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=nRJRtOCvG471bDthxtxZ86

On coffee breaks i paused and turned the unit of. Afterwards I continued.

Is this normal for a (new) 1040? I am really disappointed by the runtime. Strange is also the huge difference between the two rides.

Just did a 4 hour ride with Garmin Share disabled. All good now (99-88%).

Try setting the backlight to manual and the brightness slider all the way to the left (assuming you ride during daylight). The cause of high battery usage is usually the backlight.

On my 3h40 ride yesterday the 1040 with same beta firmware version went from 45 to 33 %.

Don't use auto brightness and turn off garmin share, road hazards and all that crap. I have now 2 rides (2 hours each) and lost only 5% per ride. Especially the road hazards and garmin share feature seemed to drain the battery a lot.

Thanks. Road Hazards etc.are turned off anyway.

Tonight an evening ride. I used automatic backlight without timeout (as it was evening).

2:45 hours and battery dropped from 99 to 82%. That equals a runtime of about 16 hours. Don´t think thats normal

@Chefkoch_ It might be normal. At night time battery consumption will be higher due to backlight. Turn off automatic backlight and set it manually as low as possible while you can still read the display.

@winfried Thanks. But automatic backlight should be at a bery low level during evening/night compared to daytime..,

Battery runtime should be higher than the demanding usecase in Garmin docs (no LiveTrack or navigation in this case) which gives up to 35hours....

I contacted the seller. Let's see what he has to say...

Edit: seen that Garmin share was enabled, overlooked the setting. Will try without again...
