Edge 1040 not detected by Garmin Express, but recognized by BaseCamp

Hi,

I’m having an issue with my Edge 1040: it’s not detected by Garmin Express, even though it’s recognized just fine in BaseCamp.

I’m using a new Mac (M4, macOS 15.4.1), and I’ve tried several USB cables and ports. Garmin Express fails to detect the device most of the time. After randomly connecting and disconnecting the Edge about 10 times, Garmin Express will sometimes finally recognize it.

I’ve had this issue both with the previous firmware version (26.18) and the current one (27.13).

Also, I make sure that BaseCamp and Garmin Express are never open at the same time.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior or found a fix?

    The Mac only allows one program at a time to talk with an MTP device so you cannot have both Basecamp and GE running a the same time.

    Just to clarify, as I mentioned in my original message, I make sure that BaseCamp and Garmin Express are never open at the same time. The issue happens even when only Garmin Express is running, with BaseCamp completely closed.

    In the screenshot I shared, I had both apps open just to demonstrate that the Edge 1040 is properly detected by at least one Garmin app (BaseCamp), while Garmin Express fails to recognize it.
