Climb on 1040 solar not showing after map updates

After a recent update on Garmin 1040 solar, climbs don't show up anymore . Either using a pre determined waypoint or not . any hint please?

  • Did you do the resent map update from the Cycling Maps to the Topo maps?

  • Hummm I don't think I did it . Was a massive update involving maps too. Would you be so kind to tell me what is this exactly about ?

  • There appears to be an issue with map updates in some regions where the installation of the new maps does not correctly delete the older maps. This can result in navigation features not working correctly.

Go to Menu -> Activity Profile -> Name of profile you are using -> Navigation -> Maps -> Configure Maps and see if you multiple map versions for the same area.

  • Yap . I do have a bunch on either topo and Garmin maps, some dated 2024 and others 2025. The list looks very populated compare to the past . What you suggest me to do ?

  • You could try and go through and delete the older maps one by one, but I think the cleanest approach is to do a mass deletion of the maps and do a clean install of them.

Delete all the files from Garmin\SID folder

In the Garmin\SQL\Internal folder delete all the files EXCEPT the MapRegionGrouping.db

In the Garmin folder delete all the *.img files. You can leave the *.gma and *.unl files as they will not do any hard.

If you are on a Mac empty the trash top really delete the files.

Disconnect the Edge from the PC.

Power it off and back on.

Reconnect it to the PC and using Garmin Express install the maps you want.

  • one question please. How can I access Garmin files on Mac, considering Garmin no longer shows up on finder ? Thanks

  • If you are on Mac then you need to install a 3rd party tool that supports MTP.

I know there have been a number of threads on this. Install Android File Transfer.

When that app is running you will need to stop Garmin Express as the Mac only allows one program to access an MTP device at a time.

I have reported this issue to Garmin so alternatively you can wait for a fix.

  • Delete all the files from Garmin\SID folder

What are these .SID files? (on my 1040), I did not see that suggestion but earlier I had deleted map files in /GARMIN (via Express), deleted files in \SQL\Internal and reinstalled via Express but still have a mixture of 2024.10 & 2025.10, would the.SID files cause that? Thanks

  • The SID files depending on the Edge model contain simplified map data for high zoom levels as well as map drawing information for units not using map themes.

The other possibility is that the Map Region data base still has some bad entries. I have not been able to check that yet.

If that is the case then you would need to delete that as well all the map files etc and restart the unit to cause the database to be re-created.

Delete all the files from Garmin\SID folder

In the Garmin\SQL\Internal folder. Delete all the files INCLUDING the MapRegionGrouping.db

If you could send me a private message with the contents of the SID folder, Garmin\SQL and Garmin folders I can investigate further. What 2024.10 maps are still listed?
