Version 27.13 Update - an odd thing?

I downloaded the 27.13 update yesterday but did not immediately install it, in fact as is my habit I copied the GSP file to my computer, it was about 4.5MB which is reasonable as I had been installing the 27.xx betas so it was just a delta from the last beta.

This morning I accessed Express to look at what it was offering in the 2025.10 Map update (TopoActive rather then Cycle) and while I was looking it seems to have copied a new GSP to my Garmin which is 38.9MB, ie a "full" version and not a delta.

Not complaining as its better to have full rather than delta if I ever wanted to downgrade, I will copy the new one to my computer too  but Is this normal??

PS Before I install can anyone confirm the MapTheme is still there (it had been removed without warning by 27.07b but restored by 27.09b),

Menu>Activity Profiles>(Select Profile)>Navigation>Map>Appearance>MapTheme

thanks

  • Ah thanks, after jumping into 27.07b and discovering the MapThemes were gone without any warning I was exceedingly cranky with myself for being so rash and Garmin for removing a favourite component, so much so I must have scared them with my foretold consequences as the MapTheme was "restored" in 27.09b, I have been reluctant to move off that version, wallowing in the mapthemes & the bigger icon/cursor.

  • So far my experience with the 27.13 and the new 2025.10 topoactive maps has been great. Big arrow (already from the beta fw), the themes working again, and the device just is frikkin fast again.
After installing the new fw and updating the maps I did a Clear History from within Garmin Express, and my 1040 has been flying ever since. My courses and workouts are still there, and can't say I miss something on the device. Well except for the laggyness that has been creeping in for several months now. I was almost at the point of full reset, but now everything is running mega smoothly again.
Sync after activity is still slow though, so I might turn WiFi off again to see if that fixes it (has in the past).
