Attention: Garmin Cycle Maps will no longer be available for Edge bike computers

I just installed the new 2025.10 maps via Garmin Express.

Attention:

Cycling Maps Starting May 7, 2025, Garmin Cycle Maps will no longer be available for Edge® bike computers and Garmin watches. The same map content will be included in our TopoActive maps and can be purchased or downloaded on compatible devices. For more information about Garmin TopoActive maps, see TopoActive maps on Garmin watches or Checking the maps installed on an Edge bike computer.

  • Is this of any concern? Are there currently things present in the Cycling map that are missing in the Topo Active?

  • Is this of any concern?

The concern is that in future there will be no more cycle map updates without payment.

  • Me too? Checked via Express and it is offering the 2025.10 TopoActive updates for the regions I have installed and "available" TopoActive for the other worldwide regions but no CycleMaps at all, assume that when (if) I update the currently loaded maps they will delete the existing CycleMaps, do I want to do this?? From anyone using Topoactive what is the difference to the cycle maps ?

I notice there is a TopoActive map for Greenland, that's going to be handy for Mr Trump wonder if he has a Garmin?

  • These could be a big plus for the 2025.10 TopoActive?

    Current Map Version: TopoActive 2025.10
    Change Log

    • Fixes a known bug causing routing and course creation errors in Europe

    • Improved road colors to better distinguish road classes
[previously OK IMO but last few updates had every road in Blue or Gray]

    • Higher contrast colors for roads/trails to improve visibility

  • Do you have a source for that or is it just mood-building? Cycle Maps will cease to exist and will be included in TopoActive. So, there will be no more Cycle Maps updates at all, let alone paid Cycle Maps updates. (..)The same mapping content will now be included in our TopoActive maps and can be purchased or downloaded on compatible devices(..) First sigh, then blow, no reason for panic.

  • Garmin says:

    Cycling Maps

Effective May 7, 2025, Garmin Cycle Maps for Edge® cycling computers and Garmin watches are being discontinued. The same mapping content will now be included in our TopoActive maps and can be purchased or downloaded on compatible devices.

Ok, „…can be purchased or downloaded…“ may also mean „without payment for compatible devices“…?

Now updating, I`ll try it out tomorrow. I'm curious if the use of the TopoActive maps also means that the saved locations of my FR955 (with TopoActive maps) are now also synced with the Edge 1040 and vice versa. And whether the Edge 1040 will now also be compatible with Garmin Explore, which also uses the TopoActive maps.

  • Interesting.  I just plugged in my old 820 and Garmin Express now shows "Map Updages Available. See Pricing."
