I close the app reopen no success. Only after I restart 1040 the ride is uploaded(sometimes not) . Come one Garmin its 2025 there shouldn't be a problem like this. Its only 500kb file upload to a phone. How hard can it be?

I found that 1 in 50 rides doesn't upload and I do one of two things
1. With Connect attached to the Garmin, start and stop so you have a very short ride.
2. With Connect attached, on the app click the device and go through to the screen that shows the device and the sync circle on its own page. This sync seems to do more/ be more rigorous than the default/background sync and can take more time but gets the missing ride.
If all else fails disconnect the phone from the Garmin (remove phone option) and reconnect again.
Mine does never upload automatically. So your suggestion does not help.
Same issue here on my 1040 Solar APAC, after updated to that latest firmware and latest Connect apps, auto sync after a ride no longer works. Even with manual sync, the process take forever until the 1040 unit auto power off and the data is still not sync. Tried remove a f add back the 1040 to the app doesn't help at all. I am wondering do I need to subscribe to Connect+ in order to enable this auto sync???
I had this on and off so I cleared the Activities folder on my Edge and it is back to reliability.
It was ok before the last firmware update... I occasionally need to recall the activity and set the course. So this suggestions os not a suitable option to me. Plus...why would I pay the premium price to get a large storage but the I have to get ride of the files with few hundreds byte?
Seeing this too occasionally. Ride doesn't get uploaded no matter how many times I sync in Garmin Connect. Edge needs to be restarted to have the ride synced. Garmin Edge 1040, Firmware 26.18, Garmin Connect 5.11.2 on Android.
Have you tried with Wifi actually turned off? That seems to work best for me. Although I don't get my automatic firmware anymore that way, it feels like a small price to pay for having the device actually upload the activity via BT to my phone and thus to GC.
Yea,I found that totally shutdown the unit and restart the auto sync works. I'll monitor if the auto sync can work after this without redo the same trick.
Same for me, I have to keep the left button on the edge for 20 seconds in order to reset. After that it syncs.
I disabled wifi and deleted the activities folder and seems like its fixed for the moment.
