26.18 WORST ever

Power meter keeps drifting upwards 40-60W. I have to calibrate every 10-15 minutes.

Gradient seems totally inverted now. Going up show negative incline, going down shows positive incline. The inclines are not correct though even if inverted, i.e. it shows -1% incline when ascending a 3% known climb.

Some profile screens just disappear. Yesterday on a ride, I used my music screen to change song. 20 minutes later, same ride, did not stop it, the music screen was gone from my profile and I had to re-add it while pedaling.

This is the flakiest Garmin update I've ever received for any edge or watch I own(ed).

  • forgot to say that it also got very confused with my power meters. After the update, my 4III crank PM (ANT+ and BT) would connect via BT all of a sudden but it had the ANT+ wording/graphic. I had always connected it with ANT+ so I turned off the BT, and connected to it with ANT and it showed the BT icons/wording. The 1040 has been all discombobulated in regards to my PM. SO frustrating.

  • oh, yeah, and yesterday on a ride, I went to map screen to see where I was exactly and it would not draw the roads after I zoomed out 1 or 2 presses of the - in the upper left of the screen. Just blankness in front of my arrow. I rode like that for 20-30 seconds....nothing.

  • I've been dealing with this as well. Hopefully 27.07 fixes much of this.

  • For the first time, I have issues with an update. Device is often unresponsive. I swipe, nothing happens. I swipe again, nothing happens. Suddenly, the devices moves 3 pages... Also redrawing the map sometimes takes too much time. As an IT guy, I still can't figure out how Garmin manages to fix one thing and at the same time break 2 others....

  • power meter drift is always a power meter problem

  • I just took my first 2025 outdoor ride with my Edge 1040 and also experienced grade issues.  A constant -2% grade on a clearly flat road.

This seems to have surfaced sometime after the fall 2024 firmware, which was my last outdoor ride and what I observed to be a more accurate grade calculation.

  • no worries, in the upcoming updates garmin will allow users to report the actual grade in a similar manner such as pothole warnings, and then when you approach a part when there is a grade, then the device will show up a message (additional to the pothole warning, so all of the concurrent messages could cover all of the display, saying

    A grade of 1% will approach in 100 m!

and then, when you've passed, there will be a dialog box asking

Is it still there? Can you confirm that grade of 1% was there??? YES OR NO??????

this will be an excellent example of a reuse an already fantastic feature - we all love - for a new purpose  ;)

  • Pretty much. And the unit never turns on, you need to hold down the power button to do a soft reset...
