Feedback: Battery Life, Slow Start up, Slow Profile Scrolling and a kind request.

Hello Garmin Team

Two months ago, I posted the message below in the Beta forums giving feedback to improve the firmware. That is my understanding what  Beta forums are for.

Unfortunately I see that none of the feedback I provided was attended and all the issues persist today after installing  the public 26.18 version.

I would like to add that most of the start up delay mentioned in item 2 below  is in the screen that shows "loading courses, workouts and locations".

This is my feedback from 2 months ago:

"Garmin team, I hope this feedback helps improve the firmware:

  1. With a fully recharged battery, I only get and estmated 15 hours duration.
  2. The unit start up after turning it on is really slow, as slow as my Wahoo Bolt 2, which is really slow.
  3. Scrolling through profiles continues to be slow as with the 25.XX versions.

And, joining the group of users who have asked for it before, considering I am 63 YO and my eyes would appreciate some help, can you please make the position icon to be about the same size as the virtual partner one?

Please, please, please.

Thank you"

I really would like to thank you for addressing this issues. There is more positive feedback I would like to share with you, but at this time I wonder whether it is pointless.

Best regards

  • Hello,

Today I started a ride with 30% battery and after just over 2 hours I got a low battery warning. I had to activate the battery savings option to finish my target distance. Ended up with 3% battery despite the solar charging.

I got home and charged it. I then looked at the estimated battery life and got 16 hours with a 100% battery. Then I came to the forums to check whether there was new information on the battery low charge and high drainage and found this thread

1040 battery drain during race - Edge 1040 Series - Cycling - Garmin Forums

where Winfried comments:  "That happened to me a while back. Turned out the backlight brightness had somehow gone from auto to always at 80%. So check your backlight setting, it is a battery burner."

So I went to check my display settings and indeed the brigthness was not in auto as I had set it up from the beginning. I turned Auto on and now the estimated battery life is 42 hours. Will check how it performs in my ride tomorrow.

All I can think of is that during an update, this setting was modified without me realizing so.

Thanks Winfried for your comment and Note to Self: After updates, if something is not working as it was, check that my settings remain as I originally entered them.

The other items in my post remain and hopefully they will be solved shortly.
