Edge 1040 is so incorrect - why?

Why does the Edge 1040 solar keep listing outdoor cycling as indoor cycling? This device is the worst I have ever used. …..Useless.

  • Maybe you are using an indoor profile where GPS is disabled.

  • No.

I am a long time Garmin Edge user ever since the Edge 800 was first released and my first Edge 1040 was used on road and indoors on occasions during inclement weather.

So I know what I am talking about.

When the first Edge 1040 inexplicably failed with the warranty period, Garmin replaced first the 1040 then the charging cables twice, all this time I was only able to enter data manually from my Strava account to Garmin Connect.

I have also much inside knowledge from the cycle trade of their thoughts on Garmin and their products too, so I am not alone.

I have written a review article which will be appearing in the  national cycling press detailing all of Garmin’s failures and advising people to avoid at all cost these products.

  • No, I am a long time Garmin Edge user and have used them since the Edge 800 was released.

Upgrading to the 1040 was a mistake as the product failed within the warranty period and Garmin exchanged the faulty one for a new one (and two replacement seemingly undamaged cables.

I used the first 1040 both on the road and in badly inclement weather as an indoor training device so I know about swapping between the two and this was all good.

That was before the first one failed  and was replaced under warranty (I now believe the seemingly undamaged cable was the fault but Garmin didnt identify this even though they had photos) and telephone discussions.

I have now written a review article about all this to be published in the national cycling press advising others of the issues, backed up by insider information from the  cycle trade to avoid Garmin at all cost.

  • It looks like you are a Garmin expert with a lot of experience, who, given the short "no" followed by a summary of all his knowledge and experience, is not open to an answer to his question and has already drawn his conclusion. So why your question because you don't invite people to think along?
