BUG: WiFi sync is broken!

A WiFi sync does not transfer all data to Connect, so Unified Training Status does not work as intended!

If I leave my 965 (my primary device, on v22.22) at home while riding with my 1040 v26.17 and sync it with WiFi after, pulse does not transfer to Connect, and no intensity minutes are accounted for. The activity itself is transferred without issues though.

If I disable WiFi and sync with Connect Mobile (iOS) there are no issues. See my two test test rides today, the first one I had WiFi disabled and synced with the app and pulse transferred, the second one synced with WiFi and no pulse transferred:

If I trigger a manual WiFi sync it starts as normal with "transfer in progress" but after a while there's "sync failed".

After I installed 26.17 I performed a full reset of the 1040 but issue persists.

  • Is it only me that have this issue?

  • Oh crap so it’s a bug. I thought it was just me. Even creared a separate wifi (2.4ghz) network as it night it was due to a mix of 2.4 and 5ghz. So no, yore not the only one.

  • I have different names on my 2.4 and 5 networks, so that's not the issue...

If you do a manual wifi sync, do you also get "sync failed" in the end?

      any input?

  • Yup. When doing it manually, it initially says to connect to the network, then transfer in progress and stops with sync failed.

  • I got v26.18 today, but still "sync failed" when testing. Haven't done any ride today though...

  • Hello, thanks for your post.

If an Edge device has synced successfully (Edge has already uploaded all new activity data to Connect and has nothing new to receive), you will receive the message "sync failed" when trying to initiate a manual sync via Wi-Fi.

We are looking to improve this messaging to avoid confusion, but in this case sync failed likely indicates that there is nothing new to be synced.

In most cases where the Edge is also paired to the Garmin Connect App via Bluetooth, activities will upload via Bluetooth automatically. both activities you recorded on 2-23-2025 were uploaded to Connect via Bluetooth.

  • Yes, the activities are not the problem, but the "daily pulse" (and because of that also activity minutes) does not transfer if using wifi for sync, see the picture in my first post

Edit: Both uploaded via bluetooth/app? I "kill" the app when not in use, so I'm pretty sure the second one was via wifi...? And I've done this test before with same results.

Edit 2: But the next time I'll shut my phone to be sure...

  • I do not expect this is related to how the activity file is being uploaded to Garmin Connect.

The second activity is short (~10 minutes) with relatively low average heart rate data - this ride was likely not intense enough to generate Intensity Minutes credit.

I'd ask you to review activities where you did receive Intensity Minutes credit for comparison, this threshold is primarily determined by your user profile, resting heart rate, and elapsed time. For reference:How Are Intensity Minutes Earned?

Heart rate data as displayed in your screenshot should only be coming from your compatible wearable (Forerunner 965):How Does Heart Rate Data Display in Garmin Connect?

  • But in both cases I left my Forerunner 965 at home, how do you then explain the heart rate data in the graph during the first ride...?

But I'll do another test, with longer and harder rides.

  • All heart rate data displayed on the Connect timeline came from your Forerunner 965: All Day Heart Rate Graph and Recorded Activity Does Not Match
"All day" heart rate data is a wearable/watch feature only, as you would not be expected to have your Edge powered on all day.

Your chest strap heart rate monitor may have been connected to the watch briefly (getting ready to ride), the watch may have recorded (incorrect) data while not being worn, it is tough to say for sure.

If you can reproduce any errors and provide additional dates or details, we'd be happy to review.
