can no longer see files on Garmin 1040 with MAC computer

Starting on December 8, 2024 my Garmin 1040 stopped being recognized by my MAC PC as an external drive. Interestingly the interface icon changed from a Computer symbol to an USB symbol.  I was able to interface with Garmin Express and Strava was able to get data wirelessly.  I talked with Garmin support on how to download courses from ride with GPS and I could get my original files from Strava.  Over the next 2 months the Garmin became very unstable and eventually would only interface irregularly with Garmin Express.  In a follow up call with Garmin they took that unit back and supplied a replacement. Im gathering they were trying to debug what happened.  When I plugged in my replacement GPS into my PC it worked normally.  I was able to directly load coursed into it with no issues.  As soon as it updated software it started working like the previous unit.  That is the computer icon changed to a usb icon and my MAC no longer recognized the Garmin as an external drive.  However I still can use Garmin Express and Strava but loading coursed has become more convoluted.  It appears the software update in early December changed how MAC computers see the GARMIN 1040 so it is no longer seen as an external drive.
