resetting mid ride

Why does my Edge 1040 reset mid-ride?

It only takes a minute and comes back but I do have to remember to press start again when it does come back.

It's been happening most rides, twice yesterday.

  • Why does my Edge 1040 reset mid-ride?

Because Garmin seems to have lost the art of software development. Mostly processor / memory overload and sloppy programming / error catching, Until they find the art again (if ever) you might try the following...

A "factory" reset often clears things up for a while, especially if you only "sleep" the device between rides rather than turning it off completely. The restore from previous sync via GC Mobile is fairly good and recovers most stuff.

To maximise the time between resets turn device off between rides (rather than sleep)

Minimise processor / memory loading by disabling any functions you don't / infrequently use, I am looking at "Hazard Reporting", "Group" anything, functions requiring phone connection / interaction, Wi-Fi enabled (even though not connected), "too" many sensors (?), coach stuff,...in fact most "new" features in the last 12 months especially, you decide what you can live / ride without, lift your eyes from the Garmin and enjoy the view.
