Hi all - new to Garmin (but not live segments - as have used a Wahoo Bolt and Roam for years)
Really fancied the 1040 for the battery life and screen size for bikepacking type stuff, and will now use it for everything.
One thing I just need to get used to until I get familiar with menus and how things work - is live segments.
min used to being able to physically see the live segments that my old device has in it, and it has no limits that I’m aware of.
I’ve been setting up my 1040 and one curious thing I read today was about a limit to the number of segments. And this is an up to date FAQ (July 2024) which has had me searching / googling.
- I’ve attached a screenshot from the Strava info. It is quite clear. There are only 100 live segments allowed - PLUS 20-30 ‘popular’ segments.
I can see historical posts in here (c. 3 years ago) about limits changing from 100 to 300, but this support info from Strava supersedes that being this year.
Q1. does anyone know how the 100 are selected, and how the 20-30 popular segments are selected? This is as much a Strava question as it is a Garmin 1040 question but thought it worth asking here
there’s a setting on this page that says I have to switch on the popular segments - that is a separate purely Strava question which I’m posting elsewhere
Q2 - where can I see on either the device, Garmin Connect, or Garmin Exoress, which live segments the device actually has loaded? In some ways this is the most important thing to me as that removes any doh t about anything - either they are there or they are not.
cheers.
