Where do I find the map legend for my Edge 1040?

I've looked through the owner's manual and can't find a map legend. What do the different symbols mean; red dot and line, yellow dot and line, etc.? Did I just not look hard enough or in the right spot?

The Garmin maps are derived from OpenStreetMap so you can get some hints from looking at the https://www.openstreetmap.org site and the legend there although Garmin do change / add / delete some things…

There is a link to the map legend for the Garmin Explore device, which I took and added a few more symbols to the list... no guarantee of completeness. If you want, you can view this legend here

@M Waldo is asking for the map legends for the Garmin Cycle Map. Although this map is derived from OSM data the rendering is completely different compared to the standard (Carto) rendering on www.openstreetmap.org.

By the way, thanks for your OSM legends and your additions.
