Edge 1040 lag because of Shimano STEPS sensor

Hello,
I updated to version 24.19 one month ago, everything was working fine. But since my outing yesterday, when I follow a route with my e-bike with Shimano EP801 engine, the display of my 1040 becomes very long. It lags. It becomes impossible to follow the route. The Edge 1040 works slowly, as if it had no more memory. I made a backup with my GPS backup, it does not change anything. I noticed that when I delete the "Shimano STEPS" sensor in my edge 1040, then everything goes back to normal ... except that I no longer have access to the engine information on the screen of my edge ... What can I do please?

  • Hello again everyone,

I just tested with an edge 830 by pairing it to my e-bike. the route tracking works perfectly. This means that the problem comes from the Edge 1040 and not from the Shimano STEPS sensor. Will the next update solve the problem? Should I install the previous version 21.18 in the meantime? If so, how to download it and downgrade the firmware of the 1040?

  • New try: I did a master reset ... the problem persists ... as soon as I connect it to the Shimano Step sensor, the Edge 1040 becomes very very slow ... As soon as I disconnect the sensor, even without interrupting the guidance, everything goes back to normal ... I don't know what to do anymore! Help Please !!! :(

  • Contact Shimano?

  • Thanks for your reply. But since it works perfectly with my edge 830, I thought the problem was more with the edge 1040... Am I wrong?

  • Am I wrong?

Possibly not. My hope with contacting Shimano is that they know about this issue, but my guess is they don't.
Question: does the STEPS sensor connect using ANT+ or BT/BLE? Maybe disabling one or the other may shine some light?

  • I just updated to 25.24. The problem is still there. My Shimano STEP sensor is connected in "ANT Private". I don't think it can be connected in BT ...
  • Hello,
I want to downgrade the firmware 25.24 to 21.18 to see if the problem persists. I pasted the GUPDATE.GDC in the "Garmin" folder, then restarted the edge 1040. It does not install, remains in version 25.24 and the GUPDATE.GCD file is automatically deleted ... What am I doing wrong so that the downgrade does not happen ? Thank you for your help

  • Since version 25.xx software updates are distributed as GUPDATE.GSP and not anymore as GUPDATE.GCD. Possibly this is the reason that the Edge, once on 25.24, does not accept older .GCD software files. In case of problems with new software, or for testing reasons this is a serious drawback now!

  • But nooo !!! Oh ***...Thanks for your answer bikepc01

  • Hello, the update to 25.25 still doesn't change anything to my problem. I reset the factory settings, nothing works ... Still this slowness which makes the 1040 unusable only when I am following a course and Shimano STEP is on. As soon as I turn off the Shimano STEP, the GPS works wonderfully ... I think I'm going to have to part with it. Cry

Fortunately I still have my good old Egde 830 which works perfectly, but I miss the big screen of the 1040.
