Extended screen between Edge 1040 and Forerunner 745 not connecting

I see the same issue with my 1040 Solar and my new Fenix8. It says hold the watch near the egde, but I fear I would need to melt them together. Nothing happens after minutes of trying. Only the Fenix8 asks repeadaldy to continue searching as it did not find anything. Also I am wondeirng if an old issue with the strokerate in rowing has been resolved now with Fenix8. Strokerate field set on the watch was showing stamina value on the Edge 1040.

Very Clearly Garmin does not care for this feature anymore and they keep breaking it with new devices. While it was such a good reason to go with Garmin previously.
