Garmin Edge 1040 paired with Polar Look KEO Power Pedals (Single) only reporting about 55% of actual power.

Hi,

Polar Look KEO Power Pedals (Single) only reporting about 55% of actual power output on Garmin Edge 1040.

Any settings I should change to double the value?

  • How did you pair it? via BT? pair it via ANT+, that should work "good". (But WHY DID YOU BUY THIS POWERMETER.... this is one of the worst pedal based one, its predecessor was the worst in the history :) )

  • Hi Luko79,

    Thank you for your response.

It is paired via BT - There is no ANT+ option available that I know of. Any ideas?

Why the specific meter: I was a total Polar supporter since 1995 and it made sense. I have recently moved across to Garmin for good reason. Long story short: In essence one platform for all the data and everything linked to it.

With the Polar (even on latest Vantage V3) watches the pedals worked great, so not sure about the "worst" pedal remark. ;) Also, reading through the forums and web, it seems like there is still a lot of development in this area taking place, and even top models have their issues.

Which pedal (brand and model) would you recommend?

  • It seems the pedal reports its power as 1-sided pedal, but Edge always takes a power sensor data as total power you produce (that's why you get only 50% of your total power - because Edge gets only half value from your sensor).

Take a look in the pedal configurator app (there shall be one for the phone) and there you should be able to switch on "single pedal only" switch, or similar - then the pedal sensor will multiply the values it sends to Edge by x2 so you'll get full total power like for 2 pedals.

This is a usual setting for 1-pedal setups for other brands' power pedals. I've got Stages Power left crank, same setting there in Stages config app.

With your previous Suunto set-up it might have worked with another setting in Suunto device or in some other way just natively. But Garmin doesn't know what kind of sensor you have - 1-sided, or 2-sided, so there's no any setting on Garmin side you could use, only on pedal side..

  • It has ANT+ protocol also, look the pic below. when you pair it to the Edge 1040, that should find it via ANT+ at 1st, then via BT (the ANT+ has a number ID, like here  3506, via BT  the sensor has a longer name with characters also.). check the Look app , maybe the ANT+ transfer is disabled somehow in one of the submenus. Probably the "Dual mode" is the setting for the BT , if that is enabled like on the pic, then both pedal's data is transferred via one BT channel, aka "unified" channel like in the Assioma Duos. If it is disabled then both pedals have different BT Power sensor names ("Look L" and "Look R" for example) and certain head units (but not the Garmins) can handle 2 power meters simultenously. so with Garmin head unit You must enable this "dual mode" for BT connection.

If you wanna pedal based powermeter, choose : Assioma, Rally (in this prefer order)
