[SOLVED] Edge 1040: Request to send waypoints with courses from Garmin Connect

Hi,

I've noticed that when sending a course to my Edge 1040 from Garmin Connect, the course is transferred without the waypoints. This is different from how waypoints are handled on Garmin watches (Fenix, Epix, etc.), where waypoints are included when sending a course.

Waypoints can be very helpful for navigation and marking points of interest along a cycling route. I would like to request that Garmin consider adding the ability to send waypoints with courses to the Edge 1040 (and future Edge devices) from Garmin Connect.

This would make the Edge more versatile and user-friendly for cyclists who rely on waypoints for navigation and route planning.

Thanks for considering this request!

  • Do you want the "waypoints" to be "course points" or "Locations" on the 1040, I don't think edge devices support any other representation on the course, POIs are treated as Locations I believe?. I have seen GPX file types from other planning sites with embedded waypoints and these get translated on import (via NewFiles) into many (too many) "Locations". Wouldn't "Course Points" do what you want?

  • Yes, I want the waypoints to be imported as "course points" within the course, just like it's done on Fenix watches.

As an alternative, it would also be helpful if the waypoints could be imported as separate waypoint files, but currently, this can only be done by transferring files via USB cable. It would be great if this could also be done wirelessly.

Currently, the only way to achieve this is by using BaseCamp and transferring the course via USB, which is a more cumbersome process than simply sending the course wirelessly from Garmin Connect. It would be much more convenient if the waypoints were included when sending the course directly from Garmin Connect.

  • Hey  in my case, waypoints that were defined on the route when planning with GarminConnect are also transferred to the Edge 1040 (they are part of the route, you cannot see them in one of the folders). When following this route, these waypoints are displayed in the list of all waypoints (with the distance to the point) and there is also a text message with a buzzer shortly before reaching the waypoint (although very briefly).

  • Hi peggatsch, are you really sure they send it to you? Well I've tried and tried and nothing. I'll have to reset the device and try again. It's exactly what I wanted, but no matter how hard I tried, I never got it. And I have the latest firmware version and everything. Thank you very much.

  • Hi  here is an example of waypoints transferred to Edge 1040 and working as described... does it match your plan ?

  • Hi peggatsch, yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I've transferred your route to my Edge 1040, but I can't see it. And I've checked and tried turning the "waypoints" (in my spanish language edge "puntos del trayecto") option on and off, both in the track sent and in the general settings. But I can't get it to show up.

  • "course points" is the feature i have test to disable and enable. and i have test to change the language of my edge to english, but it doesn't works.

I will try to factory reset to test it. Thank you

  • I've transferred your route to my Edge 1040, but I can't see it.

Have you started the route and waited for the GPS fix? When the navigation starts, you will see all the entries in the list of waypoints - that's how it is for me

  • Ok, yes, indeed when I start navigation I do see a page where I get a list of all the points on the map and the distance to them. But I don't see them on the map directly. I have to go to that page to see them. On the Fenix they do appear on the map. On your Garmin Edge is it on the map or just in the list?

  • This is what the contents of the Course-FIT file in the "Course Point" section of this tour looks like
