SW version 24.19 gradient issue

Hello,

With the latest FW release (24.19), I'm facing a severe issue with grade (percentage) : The slope values displayed by the device are incorrect.

For example, on a severe slope, gradient values of 1 or 2% are displayed instead of 9 to 10%, and sometimes even negative values are displayed ..... This was not happening with previous FW version ....

This happens whatever the speed is during the climb .

Despite this issue altitude values remain correct, only gradients are wrong.

Seems really like a software bug ???

  • Since the last update I've had the same issue on my 540. Climbpro grade is 1-2% while grade on actual real time data is more or less correct. Will check if the issue persists since I ordered a 1040 to replace my 540.

  • What Latest version ?

Because most of the people here have beta and we need speciifc

  • Hilarious.  Today going up the steeper part of the Cat and Fiddle I was getting -3% - up a 6-7% part of the climb. What annoys me is it more or less worked until all the people constantly moaning that it was slow updating forced Garmin to change it multiple times. Well done. It’s now totally broken.

  • It is not like this is new.  Some of these posts are 2 months old.   Garmin, fix it.

  • I think it's fair to say that they have, though only in beta at present (>25.21). See this thread - 25.18 Nothing about gradient fix - Community Discussion - Edge 1040 Series - Garmin Forums .

Anyway, the fix will presumably be rolled out in the next full release, though that may be some weeks away. Personally, I joined the beta program a while ago; although bugs like this hit you faster, so do the fixes, and generally the beta releases seem no worse in terms of the bugs vs fixes balance when compared with full releases...and if the worst comes to the worst, it's always possible to roll back.

  • Didn't fix it for me, although there's somewhat an improvement. Like others said there are probably several revisions/steppings of the 1040. I still think it's related to the GPS update to 11.0, which is why downgrading didn't help. The GPS-firmware isn't part of every firmware release, only when there're changes. To verify my presumption one would need a really old firmware release containing the GPS-part <11.0.

  • I have the same issue with my 1040 solar. After FW upgrade to v.24.19, altitude, speed and summary elevation are correct. But actual elevation gradient is continously changing. While riding on perfectly flat, indicated gradient is changing every 2-3 secunds (example: -2; 0; -1; 2%). It must related to new firmwarfe version. Before upgrade to FW 24.19, gradient indication was updated much more seldom, approximately every 6-10s. Now indicated gradient is refreshing every approx.2s, what can cause bigger calculation error.

  • Is it still not fixed?

  • Yes, still not fixed. That's why more and more my friends are changing from Garmin to Wahoo
