SW version 24.19 gradient issue

Hello,

With the latest FW release (24.19), I'm facing a severe issue with grade (percentage) : The slope values displayed by the device are incorrect.

For example, on a severe slope, gradient values of 1 or 2% are displayed instead of 9 to 10%, and sometimes even negative values are displayed ..... This was not happening with previous FW version ....

This happens whatever the speed is during the climb .

Despite this issue altitude values remain correct, only gradients are wrong.

Seems really like a software bug ???

  • Because we guess it's not the GPS elevation that is used currently but the gradient that is stored in the very imprecise map and that needs the current GPS position and direction.

If that were the case the elevation profile in a given Strava segment should look about the same every time I think, but it doesn't. I was also using the IQ app "Climb Gauge" but after the update it showed the same nonsense.

I'd really like to test a really old firmware, but it'd have to be one that also updates the GPS firmware from the second-to-last GPS firmware to the last firmware before 11.0. Just installing a generic firmware prior to 23.x/24.x won't do as the GPS firmware would remain at 11.0.

  • It’s great that users are hypothesizing here but does Garmin even look at these forums? They need to be the ones fixing it and it would be great to know if they are even aware of it.

Well, it's all we can do 'cause they're obviously not chipping in. When I first posted the problem several weeks ago Garmin Blake asked me for access to my FIT-files. No problem. Weeks later I asked for a follow-up but radio-silence. I also addressed them directly in posts to no avail.

Remember when Garmin promised real interaction in the beta forum come release 15.xx or 16.xx? Yeah.

  • I have rised a ticket for more than one week directly to Garmin support, every day they have ask me different things , like where exactly was happening , what grade it shoud be (WTF?) , activities , examples, I am getting tired

  • It might be time for me to move on from Garmin if they aren't going to take this seriously...

  • Initially I thought that my Garmin has an hardware issue with

I thought to buy 1050 but I hold my horses because I sow that they have same problem

Wahoo will release for sure new device soon, and I never had issue with gradient with Bolt V2 , actually they had improved Gradient response long time ago

  • This is the type of issue that will be fixed in a future firmware update and likely has nothing to do with hardware. I submitted a bug report to Garmin using their help chat; they were very helpful and received my information with no argument. I would encourage a few others to do the same to help promote this issue to the top of garmin's bug list.

  • i have the same issue, while climbing a 3.5 mile road with11-13% Garmin 1040 was reading -1 to 2%. It used to be fairly accurate
