1040 Battery Life 24.19

I'm noticing since the last update that my battery life is dramatically worse than it's ever been before.  Where I could easily do a double century on one charge, I am now seeing faster than 10% per hour life reduction.  Not sure what's happened but it's not great to have to charge much more frequently.  Is this a known issue?

  • I compared two random activities - the earlier one with firmware 21.18 and the current one with 24.19 - on both I have identical battery usage - 2.4%/hour

    P.S.:

    Install : apps.garmin.com/.../84104c99-6ad2-4bcb-8537-8bfb6d141089
Add it to one of the data fields ( necessary for it to be able to save data about the battery to the activity file) - in the activity summary you will have a graph of battery usage as a function of time.

  • 2.4% per hour is consistent with what I would consider normal historic usage.  I'll DL the app above and repost.

  • I have never used the Battery Up/Down before and my settings are a bit extreme on the saving side (except for Auto Select SatIQ but I suspect it is using standard GPS mostly), my ride never went over 1.4%, battery estimate 90h,

  • Quick note:  did a reset and the battery life at 99% went from 10hrs to 17.

  • It all depends on how you have the device configured, how many sensors connected
    My 2.4% consists of:
    - heart rate sensor
    - speed sensor
    - cadence sensor
    - rear light/radar varia rtl515
    - edge remote control
In addition, I practically always listen to music, which I control through the music control panel.
I also have the automatic screen backlight turned off and manually set to 10%.

  • How old is your device? How often has it been used

  • Several years old and a lot.  Would not expect the battery to just fall off a cliff though.  Maybe I'm wrong there.

    Today:  57mins = 8%.

    Sensors:

    HR

    Power meter

    DI2

    Bontrager lights (2)

  • Try without the sensors connected, if that changes the situation start adding one at a time and test - you may be able to figure out which one causes the power consumption to increase.

  • The number one battery drainer is the backlight, at higher % it uses more battery that everything else combined. Maybe I just have a good one but in normal daylight I need 0% and the screen is very clear and sharp, at night 10% is almost too much, wish there was a lower setting. Otherwise 1040 is just a computer, the more you ask it to do the harder the processor has to work and use more battery. Phone connection is the number 2 drainer and then all the stuff associated with having connection on. My IT intuition suggests the free climbpro & Hazard stuff could be drainers too, I use neither.
