I've uploaded a course to my Edge 1040, In the Saved Courses screens shows 2315m ac+, when, after riding it, it was 1381m ac+ (Garmin connect shows 1257m ac+).
I've reported this issue in beta 2.18, 2.19, and now on production 2.19.
