Bottom buttons broken

The bottom buttons have stopped working on my Edge 1040. This means I cannot start or stop an activity. I am away on a bike packing trip so would be grateful for any advice/work around so I can start using it again.

Thanks, Jim

  • From manual:

    1 Select > Activity Profiles.

    2 Select a profile.

3 Select Timer > Timer Start Mode.

    4 Select an option:

Select Auto to start the activity timer automatically when you reach the start speed.

  • And how to stop it?

  • Maybe try a full power off and on just in case it’s some form of software issue instead of physical. If that doesn’t work try “exercising” the buttons a bit to see if it can clean the contacts a bit. Although I fear the type of micro switches they use these days this doesn’t work as well as it used to. You can but try though.

  • Hi, I had the same issue with the power button, I have 2 1040’s solar, non solar, power button on solar has always been a bit stiffer compared to non solar, occasionally it feels harder to start but Garmin workaround seems to work for me, Its out of warranty so I can live with it. Anyway this link may help
