Riding and navigating a course and saving ride data are completely independent. When you press the start button on the device, it starts recording. Press it again it it will pause and ask if you want to save the data and end recording. If not, press the button again and it will continue recording from that point. All this is independent of any course you are riding or navigating. You can stop a course and/or change to another course without affecting recording.
