How do I export my activities as GPX files from my Edge 1040?

I can only find information on how to import GPX files to Garmin Connect, but I want to export GPX files from my Edge 1040.

The only way I find how to do it is through Garmin Base Camp, but that's very inconvenient.

Is there any easy way to do that?

In my old Garmin eTrex, I can simply copy the GPX files from the Garmin folder from my device. But it looks like on Edge, the gpx files don't exist and is only accessible through basecamp.

  • You can export your activity as GPX or TCX in Garmin Connect via the gear wheel symbol in the upper right corner.

  • The Edge 1040 stores recorded activities as FIT files in the Garmin\Activities folder. While other Garmin devices allow to store recorded activities both in GPX and FIT format, the Edge 1040 does not support this.

So to get a GPX file you can either download one from Connect web using the gear icon when viewing your activity. Or you could copy the FIT file from your Edge and convert it to GPX using a 3rd party tool, there are several online tools available.

  • Sorry, I can't find the "Gear wheel symbol" in my Garmin Connect. I'm using the mobile Android app, none of the screens shows any "gear wheel symbol". When I'm viewing the activities, on the upper right corner, there's a drop down menu with "Edit Activity, Add or Remove Gear, Send Course, Delete Activity," there's also a share, but it only share in image or web link, it doesn't seem to support GPX file at all... Same on the Garmin Connect web site, it also doesn't have any gear wheel or gpx export.

There's a "Gear" tab, but it's for adding sporting gears, not for gpx export.

  • you need to be on Garmin Connect Web (https://connect.garmin.com), not in the app.

  • I'm in the Garmin Connect web. under the "Activities" tab on the left, there's a "Export CSV" on the upper right, but there isn't any "Export Gpx" or any "Gear wheel" icon either.

  •  I just found the page withe the gear icon, it's hidden under the report. Thanks.

  • you can find it on the page when you view details of an activity itself (which makes sense because you're downloading a GPX file of a single recorded activity):
