pre-planned courses

I usually plan routes with Komoot and then transfer those directly to the 1040 (I'm not using Komoot on the 1040).

On my tour yesterday the 1040 massively deviated from the planned course.

I then started Komoot on my smartphone which showed the correct route.

At home I found that the route was changed being transferred to the 1040.

But when I imported the Komoot route into Garmin Connect first and then transferred it to the 1040 everything was as intended.

This is the first time I ran into this IIRC. I'm on firmware 23.10. Any thoughts?

  • Well, I'm no expert here- I don't use Komoot - but since no one else has responded, I'll have a stab.

It sounds as though the route you have created has very few trackpoints. If many are defined, then it's likely that the course planned will follow the "correct" route - if only two (as an extreme example!) then the device will do its own thng, using the routing preferences configured on the device. The preferences (and more generalised algorithm) used by Komoot may be very different from these.

Although there are other possibilities - issues with local maapping, for example - it would therefore be interesting to take a look at the original Komoot-generated file.

  • Hm, I think there were enough points. Thing is, the 1040 completely changed the points. Well, going forward I'll transfer the routes from the Connect app.

  • When you say you transfer the course directly to the 1040 without using the Komoot IQ app, how do you do that?

  • What I meant was that I don't use the app for navigation because I don't have a premium subscription.

  • Do you have automatic reroute turned off?  Activity Profile - Profile name - Navigation - Routing:  Route Recalculation should be Off and Course Recalculation should be - Prompt Only.  The default is On and Automatic.  If you miss a turn it will redo the route.
